Since I got the new Nikon D80 about 6 weeks ago I have been shooting a lot of pictures lately. I will post these shots soon when I figure out the best way to do this, I have been posting them on a Flickr Troll acount which I activated and turned into a full fledged Pro account after discussion with Dave Read of Berkshire Links. I got my old 80-200 f 2.8 Nikkor lens back from Margaret Roach, and the lens is a dream. It was the reason I went with Nikon over Canon.

This is a bit log winded to get to the point, the point being I have done a lot of shooting at Tanglewood over the last month.

Photographing James Taylor last night at Tanglewood, the big annual event. I was shooting for Berkshire Links, Dave Read, and the set: I dashed off this email to Dave Read after I realized the snafu:

Due to the ‘film crew’ lighting on tonights performance (super daylight blue on JT’s face) and my inexperience with this new Nikon in situations light this, I do not think I have a single decent shot of JT. Everything else looks great, but the spotlight used on his face and body blew everything out. Hopefully Jamie has something decent, I will upload tomorrow. There are a few good overall shots of the room.

Now I know, next time I will be able to defeat the tendency of this Nikon camera meter to do this, sorry man, we have done pretty good up till now.

Well, for one I have been taking photographs again ! That is a good this. I got a new camera, that is just the bomb, it is a Nikon D80 with an 18-200mm VR lens. I have been shooting lots of little jobs, and it is a great starting point. I am going to post some pics to this blog, but since the template in a variant of Hemingway, I am going to have to see how it works out.

Well, I received my cute Canon A630 today, and it is a very sweet little point and shoot. I got it from Beach Camera, which I have bought a Canon S80 before a little over a year ago. The camera is very cool, and takes 8 megapixel photographs. Very impressive, very quick and the color is excellent. The reviews say that the camera is pretty big, but it has a great weight as well as great ergonomics. Beach Camera was fast and the customer support was prompt and responsive.

My Milnota Diamge 7 was starting to fade, as well as being very slow and frustrating. I am glad I got this little gem to be able to capture the early summer as it unfolds.

Since I haven’t been shooting lots of pictures over the last several years, outside of my Flickr digital snapshots, what have I been doing ?

I have been working in this field, now that you ask. What field might that be ? THIS FIELD ! The one you are viewing this blog on, namely, the Internet. If you are reading the words upon this page of this custom made WordPress Blog, you must be ’seeing’ it through some sort of browser, Explorer, Safari, Opera, Mozilla or Firefox. (FYI-I love and prefer FireFox)That being said, and to get very patronizing, I am making an obvious point for a reason. ( sorry if this comes off harsh )

I have been working in the field of Search, or more commonly, Search Engine Marketing / Search Engine Marketing. SEO is the backbone of the game of being found in the NSO space (Natural Search). Although, with the new Web 2.0 / Folksonomy thingy, SEO is not what it used to be. The “Rules of Google”, or white hat SEO, as it came to evolve into are distilled in Google’s basic mission statement: Do No Evil. And while many are railing against Google as it has become, the point has beenmissed by many. That catchy little warm and fuzzy phrase really applies to Google’s / Larry Page’s ranking, meaning that ‘Do No Evil’ really applies to the concept of giving people what they want in a website and a web based experience; to wit, an informational, educational, experience.

Back to the header of this post. I just put in the meta information into the header page of this blog. As they say at Technorati, release the spiders !

When did become such a geek ? I can’t point top a specific time or event when it happened, but the end result is I woke up one morning and was pronounced by the heavens: GEEK !

The roots of this transformation lie in my early computer days, back in 1993 when I practically sold my soul to learn Adobe Photoshop. I tool a very expensive, very immersive course in photoshop at a place in NYC called the Apple Market Center. Back then the state of the art in photoshop was version 2.5.1. (Now you know how old I am

I had become involved with a groupd called NYSigraph and was going to parties all over downtown NYC, which later got the name Silicon Alley. Then, my Photoshop skills got so good that in reworking my portfolio and printing it using Quark that I became a very busy editorial photographer, and missed out on the ‘dot com’ boom.

So here I am again, at the precipice of the next ‘big leap forward, doing SEO/SEM, taking pictures, building websites and doing online market space research and intel.

These posts are short due to the fact that I have screen burn and a recent short attention span from the recent lack of power and broken internet.

Well, this falls under the ‘Duh’ zone of understanding for anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock for the last few years. However, that obnoxious and condescending attitude needs a bit of explanation for the great unwashed.

Many of the films I have used in the past have been discontinued, or need to be ordered and paid for weeks in advance. Kodak continues it’s steady decline, with the film division of Fuji following close behind. The popularity of digital cameras and their corresponding sales have created a market in which the price of speed, performance and features, not to mention the drop in price has made digital the camera of choice for most point and shoots.

I started to see this soon after I started using Flickr several years ago. I love Flickr, the community, the ability to comment on other people’s photography on the basis of a common language, aesthetics. Flickr has been used as one of the best of class examples of the Web 2.0 phenomenon for the last couple of years. High bandwidth, ease of use, elegant interface, ability to create new groups and network with a minimum of hassle, and a minimum control by the Flickr admins.

Ellyssa Kroski, in her visionary blog Infotangle, really influenced my understanding of this when I found her site while researching the market space for an SEO client. Her concept of’ ‘The Hive Mind’ and ‘Folksonomy’ changed my way of thinking about the Web and the future of the Internet with one fell swoop. Yes, I said Swoop.

I have become distracted, will return to this topic later…
